How to clean the kitchen ventilation fan

Are you cleaning the ventilation ventilation and range hood? In fact, you can easily disassemble and clean the ventilation fan and the range hood of the system kitchen by yourself! Even oily filters can be cleaned in a short time by soaking and washing! We will introduce the difference between ventilation fans and range hoods, how to remove them, and how to wash them!

About ventilators and range hoods

Ventilation fans are indispensable equipment around the kitchen. Now that system kitchens have become popular, range hoods are often installed. It uses a motor to bring in fresh air from windows and air inlets, and has the role of exhausting the air inside the room directly to the outside or through a duct in the wall. Did you know the difference between these two?

What is ventilation fan

There is a type of ventilation fan in the kitchen that uses a propeller fan that exhausts air directly outside without connecting a duct. In many cases, the string switch and the shutter are interlocked, and the outside air can be shut off when it is not in operation. There are those with a saucer that prevents dripping oil stains, and those with a surface coating that repels dirt, so you can install them in the kitchen facing the outer wall.

What is a range hood

Range hoods installed in condominiums and system kitchens are large ventilation fans that are connected to ducts to exhaust air. The duct runs through the wall, and the air sucked in is exhausted outside through the duct. There are two types, the “shallow type” with a turbo fan and the “deep type” with a sirocco fan.

Difference between ventilation fan and range hood

What is the difference between a kitchen extractor fan and a range hood? A large amount of kitchen air is exhausted by a propeller fan that exhausts directly outside. However, it may stop on windy days. On the other hand, range hoods with sirocco fans or turbo fans exhaust air through ducts, so they are less susceptible to strong winds and are quieter during operation than propeller fans. Multi-functional items that can be linked with gas stoves and IH and can adjust the light and air volume are popular!

Recommended detergent for cleaning ventilation fans and range hoods

The main contaminants on ventilation fans are oil and dust. It is effective to use an alkaline cleaning agent to float the dirt and use the surfactant action (the action that makes it easier for the oil to flow into the water)! It’s a ventilation fan that you use many times a day, so you want to finish cleaning quickly. Let’s see what kind of detergent you can use to easily remove dirt!

① Magiclean for oil stains

When it comes to helping you clean your kitchen, isn’t Magiclean for oil stains? I often use it when cleaning. Even heavy oil stains are wrapped in foam with high detergency and washed away. It can also be used for cleaning fine items such as ventilation fan filters and gas stoves! If you spray it and leave it for a while, it will also have a soaking effect.

②Powder detergent for laundry

Washing powder for cleaning the kitchen? I think so. However, powder detergent has a higher concentration of detergent than aqueous solution, so it is effective for soaking hard-to-clean parts such as filters and sirocco fans. We recommend products that contain pure soap or carbonate! For general cleaning, you can easily clean by attaching gas stove parts and disassembled ventilation fan filters.

③ Sodium sesquicarbonate

A sesquicarbonate spray that plays an active role in general cleaning of the kitchen. Not only can it be used on gas stoves, but it can also be used to wipe off disassembled ventilation fans and oil stains on filters. It’s easy to make by mixing sodium sesquicarbonate and water, so it’s recommended to always have it in your kitchen! Oil stains that do not come off can be soaked.

④ Cleaner for stainless steel

The stainless steel cleaner, which is now indispensable for system kitchens, is recommended for cleaning ventilation fans and stainless steel sinks in the kitchen. Since it contains a coating agent, it is easy to use and has a professional finish! A stainless steel gas stove will also be shiny with this one. Let’s bring back the shine of stainless steel products for the year-end cleaning!

Recommended items for cleaning ventilation fans and range hoods

When choosing a system kitchen, you often wonder whether to use a gas stove or IH. Compared to that, more and more people are choosing the sirocco fan type that can be installed in any direction without worrying about range hoods. The advantage is that it is difficult to get dirty and it is easy to disassemble and remove, but the disadvantage is that it has a complicated structure when it comes to cleaning. Here are some handy items to make cleaning up a breeze!

①Sirocco fan cleaning brush

The fan at the entrance of the duct and the filter located above the gas stove get a lot of oil and dust stains. It is effective to clean after soaking or applying detergent and leaving it for some time. Sirocco fans are difficult to match the size of toothbrushes, so cleaning is easy with a special brush!

②Used phone card

Do you have a used phone card in your wallet? A card with just the right amount of elasticity is useful for scraping dirt from large propeller fans, turbo fans, and ventilation fan filters. It’s easy to do, and you can substitute a loyalty card similar to a phone card. Please look for it!

③ Unnecessary cloth and rags

Cotton innerwear and towels that have become worn out and discarded, jeans that are no longer needed can be cut into palm-sized pieces and stocked, which is convenient not only for cleaning the kitchen but also for general cleaning. Even if you wash the cloth that wiped the dirt off the gas stove or ventilation fan with water, it will not return to its original state. If you use a rag, it’s easy because you just wipe it off and throw it away!

④ Curing tape

Cleaning the ventilation fan in the system kitchen is mainly done on the gas stove. Just because it’s a big cleaning, if dirty water and dust fall from above, the gas stove will get dirty again. If you cure it, it will prevent dirt around the system kitchen as well as the gas stove. It’s easy to remove, so it’s easy to roll up and throw away after cleaning!

How to clean the kitchen exhaust fan

So far, we’ve introduced cleaning agents and useful items recommended for cleaning ventilation fans, but now it’s time to disassemble and clean! Please read the instruction manual carefully for how to disassemble and remove the ventilation fan. This time, let’s take a look at how to clean the ventilation fan that has hardly been cleaned for 9 years since installation!

Actually, it is better to disassemble and wash frequently! But I don’t know how to remove it, so I can’t clean it.

that’s right! If it remains dirty for a long time, it will cause unpleasant odors and damage the main unit.

How to disassemble

Cover the area around the ventilation fan and unplug the electric plug. Turn the round cover in the center of the propeller fan in the loosening direction and remove it.

Firmly hold the center of the propeller fan and pull it out toward you.

Pull the lower part of the cover of the ventilation fan toward you to remove it, and then push it up to remove the upper part.

This is the end of the disassembly for cleaning the ventilation fan. Did you know how to remove it? Let’s start cleaning up!

parts that can be removed

he parts that can be removed from the ventilation fan are the resin body cover and the propeller fan. It’s in a high place in the kitchen, so I tend to think it’s going to take a lot of time and effort, but once I saw how to remove it, it was surprisingly easy. Secure a space for your feet and use a stepladder or step stool to work safely!

parts that cannot be removed

The inner shutter part can be easily removed when replacing the ventilation fan. However, when you actually install it, it is a part that the construction shop will handle, so please do not remove it by cleaning.

How to wash removable parts

The fan and cover are large enough to be washed in the kitchen sink, but if you wash them as they are, the sink and the drain will get dirty. This time, I would like to clean the propeller fan in an eco-friendly and easy way that doesn’t use much water. Let’s see how to wash it!

wipe clean method

  • First, spray water all over the propeller fan. It is so full that it is dripping with water.
  • Sprinkle powdered detergent all over and wait 3 minutes. The point is to sprinkle it evenly!
  • When the dirt is loosened with water and powdered detergent, use a card to scrape it off.
  • I scraped the dirt off. Then wipe off any dirty water left on the fan!
  • The propeller fan is easy to wipe off, so cleaning is easy! If the dirt is hardened, it is also recommended to soak it!
  • After wiping all surfaces, wash with dish soap. You’ve already removed the dirt, so the sink won’t get dirty.
  • Allow to dry naturally. Next, let’s see how to clean the body cover!
  • Use a sesquicarbonate spray to clean the less soiled areas.
  • Sprinkle sesquicarbonate spray over the entire surface to lift the dirt.
  • You can wipe it off as if the dirt had dissolved in water.
  • After wiping the whole thing, wash it with dish washing detergent.
  • Let it dry naturally with other parts. Do not use a dryer as it is vulnerable to heat above 40°C!

How to wash non-removable parts

The rear side of the propeller fan, the inner shutter part, is prone to oil and dust. After 10 years from installation, it is a good idea to replace the ventilation fan with a new one. In general cleaning, cleaning is done by spraying a cleaning agent and wiping it off. Protect the area around the power cord from being exposed to cleaning agents.

How to wipe clean

  • Spray detergent. A gel or foam-type cleaning agent that does not easily drip is recommended.
  • It is effective to use a toothbrush for areas with fine protrusions! Others will be wiped off with a waste cloth.
  • The ventilation fan that has been left for 9 years since the installation. The metal coating is also peeling off. I’ll do it quickly so as not to damage it further.
  • After removing all the dirt, wipe it with water and remove the curing. The key is not to leave any detergent behind!

  • Here’s how to install the fan. First, attach the oil tray to the ventilation fan cover.
  • Hook it on the top of the ventilation fan and push it in to cover it from above
  • Pull out the cord from the cord outlet, and push in the lower side of the ventilation fan cover.
  • Install the propeller fan. Align the protrusion in the center with the shape of the hole and insert.
  • Turn the center cover until it clicks and closes.
  • Plug in and check if it works.
  • The propeller fan rotated without any noise or rattling. That’s all there is to it!

It was so easy to remove! If you know how to do it, you won’t have any trouble cleaning up!

It’s easy to remove, so you can put it on the gas stove during general cleaning! Check out how to clean your range hood!

How to clean the kitchen range hood

The good thing about range hoods is that you can’t see the dirt! I don’t know how to take it off or wash it.

Removing the range hood parts is surprisingly easy. Many of them have instructions on how to disassemble them, so check them out before cleaning!

Disassembly method

Hold the left and right sides of the straightening plate, lift it while pressing the stopper, and then slowly lower it with both hands. Remove it from the hanging bracket and put it down.

Slide the oil pack forward to remove it.

Hold the bell mouth (black part) in your hand, push it up to remove the claw from the groove, and then pull it forward.

Press the removal button on the center side of the sirocco fan to unlock it and pull it out. The disassembly for cleaning is now complete!

parts that can be removed

A fan with many blades is attached to the front of the indoor duct that connects the system kitchen to the outside. It used to be a screw type, but now there are many sirocco fans that can be removed with one touch. Do not use high temperatures or strong cleaning agents as it has a surface coating that does not easily stick to dirt.

parts that cannot be removed

How to wash the range hood body of the system kitchen is done by wiping. Be careful not to pour water on it as it may cause damage. The upper part has a duct inside, so do not give a shock or move the main body. A filterless range hood is easy to clean.

How to wash removable parts

The sirocco fan and filter located between the system kitchen duct and the gas stove are parts that catch dust and oil, so they get dirty very easily. For general cleaning, it is recommended to soak and wash to float the dirt. Let’s take a look!

Turbo sirocco fan and filter are effective

[Preparation]
・Powder detergent for laundry
・Unnecessary telephone card
・Unnecessary rags (rags)
・Plastic bag
・Rubber gloves
・It is better to have a bucket for soaking

Cover the bucket with a plastic bag, add hot water (around 40°C) and powdered detergent, and stir to make a soaking solution.

Put the removed sirocco fan in and let it sit for 10 minutes. If you have rough hands, please wear rubber gloves!

Scrape off the softened dirt with an unwanted telephone card. You don’t have to worry about peeling off the coating.

Since the detergent firmly grips the oil stains (surfactant action), the scraped dirt can be left alone until it is scraped off. If the fan or filter dries out, soak it in the soaking solution again.

Gently wash the area around the sirocco fan and its attachments with a dishwashing sponge. After rinsing with water, dry it and you are done. Let’s go to the next part!

The vermouth is also covered with dust and oil. Care must be taken as the coating can easily come off.

Wash with a sponge using the sirocco fan soaking liquid. It has a slippery coating that allows dirt to come off easily.

Rinse with water, dry and you’re done. Do it quickly, as strong cleaning agents can strip the coating and degrade the quality.

Some bell mouths are shaped like wrapping a fan. For items that are difficult to wash, soaking them with a fan or filter will help remove dirt.

Wash the oil pack in the same way and let it dry naturally. Avoid drying in the dishwasher, as high temperatures should not alter the coating.

How to wash non-removable parts (large parts)

If the range hood of the system kitchen is dirty, you will be worried about the smell. Stainless steel can be cleaned quickly with a stainless steel cleaner. The area around the bell mouth leading to the duct is also prone to oil stains, so wipe it off frequently. Let’s practice now!

Effective wiping

Spray stainless steel cleaner on the cloth to prevent splashing and dripping.

Wipe along the pattern (hairline) of the stainless steel. It’s going to be shiny from where you wipe it!

It is weakly alkaline and has a coating effect, so it was easy to clean by simply wiping off the oil film and dullness of the stainless steel.

The inner side, which tends to get dirty, is also wiped off with a stainless steel cleaner by changing the side of the waste cloth. It is easy to clean without using water.

Let’s illuminate the places where you can’t see well. It’s a part near the duct, so let’s keep it clean!

Cleaned up like new! When using a cleaner that requires a final wipe, wipe it with a well-wrung cloth.

Installation method

Hold the center of the sirocco fan and insert it so that the shaft pin of the main unit fits into the hole on the back of the fan. Push it in until you hear a click sound, and check if there is any wobble.

Attach the bell mouth (black part) by inserting the claw into the upper groove and aligning it with the lower groove while pushing it up.

Complete by installing the oil pack and rectifying plate in the opposite way to removing.

Cleaning was easier than I imagined! I can do this too!

It was very nice! If you clean frequently, you can do other things during the busy end-of-year cleaning!

summary

How to install and wash the ventilation fan and the range hood of the system kitchen are different! The ventilation fan is high in the room and looks very dirty. Of course, when you clean up at the end of the year, dirt will loosen and become easier to remove during warmer months. Please try it!
